The Wintergroup has been a pioneer for years in the production of high-quality pallets, including Euro pallets and wood panels, which are used worldwide in logistics. But it is not just our products that stand for quality and durability – our company itself is also designed for sustainability.
Our commitment to environmental protection goes beyond manufacturing: From the use of energy-efficient technologies to investments in sustainable energy sources like photovoltaics, reducing our ecological footprint is a central goal. We follow a holistic approach, combining ecological, economic, and social responsibility.
H2: A long journey to sustainability: From LED pioneer to photovoltaics
Years ago, when LED technology was still new to the market, the Wintergroup switched to energy-efficient lighting. This first step marked the beginning of a comprehensive transformation within our company: energy savings were systematically driven forward, heating supply was modernized, and the focus was placed on renewable energies.
With the expansion of wind energy in our region and the growing importance of solar energy, it quickly became clear that the use of photovoltaics can make a significant difference. As an inexhaustible source of energy, the sun offers not only a clean but also a cost-efficient alternative to fossil fuels.
Photovoltaics as the key to energy self-sufficiency
Our first photovoltaic system went into operation in 2018. Since then, the system has been continuously expanded to meet the increasing energy needs of our company. Today, we are able to generate up to 1 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of sustainable electricity annually.
This energy covers a large portion of the electricity needs for our production facilities. From the manufacturing and repair of EPAL pallets to the production of wood panels and other products – almost every aspect of our production benefits from the photovoltaic system.
But our commitment does not end here: With every expansion of our production capacities, energy generation through photovoltaics is also taken into account. Our goal is to become self-sufficient in the long term and to cover 100% of our energy needs from sustainable energy sources.

Climate protection and economic benefit: Two sides of the same coin
Investing in photovoltaic systems brings more than just ecological advantages. The use of renewable energies also pays off economically: Using solar power reduces dependence on external electricity providers and protects us against price fluctuations in the energy market.
Additionally, we benefit from high cost-efficiency. While the initial investment in a PV system is substantial, it pays for itself quickly through savings on ongoing energy costs. This makes photovoltaics not only an environmentally friendly but also an economically sustainable solution.
Photovoltaics for the future of logistics
Efficiency plays a central role in logistics – and this applies not only to transport routes but also to production processes. The use of photovoltaics helps the Wintergroup produce its pallets and wood panels even more environmentally friendly.
With around 100 million EPAL pallets produced annually worldwide and a large demand for sustainable products, our aim is to take on a pioneering role. Our photovoltaic systems are a crucial step towards climate-neutral production.
Sustainability as part of the company philosophy
The use of photovoltaics is not an isolated project, but part of a comprehensive sustainability concept. This also includes measures such as the recycling and repair of pallets, the reduction of waste, and the use of energy-efficient machinery.
Our customers – from wholesalers to logistics companies – benefit not only from the high quality of our products but also from the fact that they are manufactured with a minimal CO₂ footprint. The demand for sustainably produced pallets is constantly growing, and with our photovoltaic initiative, we are well-equipped to meet this demand.
A look into the future
Photovoltaics is a crucial part of our vision for a sustainable future. But we want to go even further: In addition to expanding our PV systems, we are constantly examining new technologies and possibilities to make our production even more environmentally friendly.
Our long-term mission is clear: We don't just want to produce the best pallets and wood panels, but to do so in a way that protects the environment and preserves the planet for future generations.
